6x9 speakers in a 5-door =8-o
#1
We kept the Panasonic 6x9 3-way speakers from Lisa's previous car, and I'm interested to find out if these can be fitted to her new 5-door. Without cutting half the trim away...
What are the chances of getting them into the doors (front preferably, but rear if necessary)?
I guess there is nowhere else to put such items...so maybe we just need to shell out for good coax circular mid-bass drivers, tweeters + crossovers?
All suggestions welcome!
Thanks

Thank you, Daz - I was afraid someone would tell me that :-(
OK, let's try it another way - anyone built an MDF shelf for the load area of a 5-door?!
[Only joking; 6" components + crossovers it is, then]
Thanks anyway, folks.

Nope, we'll be running a Pioneer DEH-45 CD tuner head unit, with something like 30W per channel x 4. It's plenty for us at present (however it does have line out feeds so an amp is always an option...)
Want to keep costs down, of course, hence the desire to re-use me old 6x9's :-)

Err..MDF shelf for load area of 5 door?
Done that. We built a false floor to house the amps, crossovers etc and the sub woofer. The speaker recesses into the spare wheel gap. Access to the wheel is via a trap door. It doesn't look too bad although you do lose a bit of boot depth. I'll get some pics if anybody is interested.
Mark
PS it was a bugger to fit!

The false floor was made from two bits of MDF, one for the top and one for the bottom. The're separated by a 3 inch gap. With the cover pulled over it looks standard. The seats still go down and it doesn't impeed the versatility of the car (ie you can still get loads of stuff in).
The whole construction can be easily removed and converted back to standard.
Unless you want to put a box in the boot it is the only way to get a good bass sound. The next thing is to Dynomat the car. This should help no end.(actually this should have been done first)
Anyway hope you get it sorted.

Sounds a bit extreme, Mark - but much respect!
Wonder if small subs are available to fit into the rear door speaker enclosures? Just a thought.
I don't think we want to get too advanced in the load area. Was your MDF panel the false floor only, or did you create something as a "parcel shelf" or tonneau cover replacement, though, Mark?
