Default subwoofer

Hi all, first post, go easy on me lol

In my Forester 2006 2.5xt it has the factory fitted rear sub on the left in the boot area. It hardly has any sound from it and what there is sounds like its sort of muffled, all the other speakers work fine and controls on head unit all seem to work.
I understand the under seat subwoofer has two controls on it to alter its sound etc. but can't find any thing listed for the rear mounted sub or to control it from the HU.
I think if I am correct its run from a 5th out on the HU and only gets around 18 amps to it anyway so I know its not going to be extra loud but you can only just hear it when your ear is approx. 8" from it.
Any help would be appreciated on getting it to work correctly, many thanks

I see where you get your username from

Have you tried removing the sub from the boot and inspecting it, it to see if the wires may have worked loose?

Never had any experience with the factory setup tbh so not sure what you should expect, if its anything like the built in ones in my parents cars then it should defo be noticeable, but still nothing dramatic if you catch my drift, depends on what its designed to do really, I wouldn't expect too much, perhaps its actually doing what its suppose to? And tbh every built in sub I have seen has only ever had tiny power cables going to a small amp (my audi is the same) so its impossible for it to create too much racket as it can't get enough power to really break loose, maybe sit in another for comparison if you know for any, maybe a local meet?

thanks, I have searched a fair bit and found plenty of reference to it not working at all but nothing similar to the problem I have.
Just didn't want to start taking everything apart if anyone had similar problem.
I know it only gets about 18w going to it so wasn't expecting it to shake the car but did expect it to at least be heard other than putting you ear right next to it.
If it stops raining will try and get to the sub and go from there, thanks.
