Default Fitting Double Din Head Unit

Came to replace the standard Subaru stereo today with a Double Din Pioneer FH-X700BT. On my 53 Sti (UK)

I think it fits by taking the cage and fascia off the Pioneer and attaching the standard stereo fitting plates that are screwed to both sides of the standard stereo.

I have a problem though- there are 8 screws attaching the plates on the standard stereo- and someone has obviously tried and failed to remove them before because all but 2 of the screws are impossible to get off as the screw heads have been damaged.

What do I do now? Can't get the fixing plates off the standard stereo and the cage that comes with the Pioneer is too big.

Can I buy some more standard fixing plates from somewhere? I have searched on ebay etc but couldn't find any. Would main dealer sell these?

Cheers

I had a similar problem, I used a dremmel to make the screws like flat head like this.

And luckily had screws which fit to replace them.

Ahhh. Good idea.

Not sure I can do that though as I don't own a dremmel etc

Plus 2 of the screws it looks like someone has tried to drill them out so I'm not even sure I'd be able to make a flat head on those.

I am thinking of switching to a standard double din unit for my 07 Hawkeye Saloon - any idea if this will fit or not?

You may well have trouble fitting that, the cut out in the hawkeye centre console is designed for a regular (rectangular) double din unit. Where as that appears to be shaped to fit the hatchback centre console.
