I know it is new, but does nyone know if the Pioneer DEH-P7400MP will fit properly in a MY01. Obviously a blank plate will be required but I've heard that width can be a problem. Any ideas?

Well....no one has a clue so perhaps another question. The unit appears to have quite a large surround and on the MY01 there doesn't seem to be much gap between the OE unit and the silver plastic dash part. In general can you just leave off the surround from the ehad unit or is there some other clever trick. Hoefully anyone who's replaced the MY01 unit should be able to help . . . Please.

I'll at least put another reply on the thread for you.
I wanted to fit my Kenward Mask in my 2001 UK300 but was told it was too wide because of the surounding trim. If it's as wide as the mask unit you will have the same trouble.

thanks for that, confirms what I suspected. I was gonna purchase off the web because it is much cheaper but I guess I will have to go to the local car audio dealer to see what fits.

we fitted 2 pioneer units into my bosses MY01 UK300 at work, the surround would not fit but it stilled looked very tidy, we took the brackets off the standard double din unit and clamped these 2 together, the bottom unit is DVD and SAT NAV the top unit is just a screen.

Andy,
It looks good. I don't think I can trust myself installing the head unit myself. I also want to fit my CD Changer, Amp and Subs, but again, I would rather leave it to someone like yourself who knows what they are doing. Is it the bottom unit where you left off the surround, cause you cannot tell?
Thanks
Steven

do i take it that there is no need to fit the surround and therefore provided you can get the unit back far enough (so it is flush with the fascia) any unit should fit?

Here's some pics of my Kenwood mask unit in a UK300.
I'm only annoyed that I didn't fit it myself, having seen how easily 'the experts' have fitted it. They've used the original double din unit mounting brackets. I've used a little black foam strip to seal the slight gap between the front of the mask units trim and the rear of the silver surround.
Regards,
Ian

steven, yes it was the bottom unit that we left the surround off and yes you should be able to get the unit back far enough to look flush!
Hopefully the unit you have should have the holes lined up that you need to use the existing bracket, thats what i did with the two pictures above.
Andy.

Reading all this has encouraged me to take the plunge and a Pioneer mp3 head unit is on order. I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks for all the comments and pictures.

Hi Steven,
I was quoted £50 to fit just the head unit. That was based on them having to cut the surround etc. However as you can see, when they came to fit it, they didn't need to cut the surround. My total price paid included fitting and supplying speakers so I can't say exactly how much the head unit install was.

Ian

Steve,
I ended up with DLS PS6 component speakers in the front doors.See http://www.dls.se/pdf/specps6.pdf for more details. I didn't fit them, however they don't look too difficult to fit. No MDF is needed. Just a little wiring to wire up the crossovers which were fitting inside the door panels just under the armrest. The total cost to supply & fit the speakers and to fit the head unit was £270.00. I've left the rear speakers alone and have the fader set mostly to the front.

Received my Pioneer 7400MP and I can confirm that it doesn't fit the MY01. The unit itself is too wide for the existing trim and whilst the surround can be separated from the head unit it cannot be left off as it houses the cd eject button and various other important bits. Ths means you cannot sit the unit behind the fascia trim and just attached the button pannel, you have to have the surround fitted. Quite dissappointed. Anyone got any recommedations of a reasonably priced (£300) MP3 head unit?
