HELP - Double din head unit & Earth problem

HELP - Double din head unit & Earth problem
Ok was given a double din dvd player nothing special but free, so thought i would put in and see what its like
2 problems hopefully you guys can help
1- its too big to fit in the heater control surround part it wont slide open ( do i need to cut away some of the surrond)
2- getting a winning noise when car is running (yep earth noise), i just plugged it into the wiring harness and it started so i didnt cut any cables
The unit is a eonon e609
any help would be good

also, are you using the mtal cage that comes with it? If so - don't your scooby "should have" the metal cage built in with the screw holes in the right place.
If you are using the plastic embelisher trim round the outside front edge - dont... most units will fit flush into the car without those on.
the whining - this can be many issues, you may need more earthing between the unit and the car, you may have disturbed some connections when putting the wiring in, or - amazingly - you might have screws that are too long into the side of the stereo... sounds odd but bear with me.. I put in a kenood DDin unti and it buzzed and whirred and farted, I found one of the installation screws into the side was too long and touched a component inside the unit!
