Hi Guys.
In all my years (5) of installing stuff blah blah balh. lol
I can't remeber doing an import impreza but i doubt it's any different to other jap motors with double din h/u's.
Just pull off the dash panel around the unit (it probably contains the heater controls) by undoing any screws at the bottom of it, there maybe 1 in or around the ashtray. The top is normally clipped on but if it doesn't want to come off look around for more screws, perhaps behind switches or switch blanks or even in the heater vents.
Once it's off the unit will be screwed into a mounting bracket or brackets at each side. remove the screws holding it all into the dash and pull it out. Remove the screws that hold the bracket(s) to the unit and dissconnect the wires. Now your'll probably need a Subaru to ISO connector avilable from any good autoleads stockist (may have to be ordered though) and a plastic pocket. The Volvo option from Autoleads should do the trick or you can get one from your Subaru dealer. You may also need an aerial adaptor plug.

Plug the new Subaru to ISO adaptor to the Subaru plug in the car.
Screw the New plastic pocket to the bottom half of the bracket(s), there should be holes in the bracket that line up with the screw holes in the pocket sides.
Screw the single din size h/u to the bracket(s), again the holes should line up.
Plug the wiring loom and aerial in and whack it in.
Try fitting the plastic surround trim onto the h/u to see if it fits/looks better. The dash maynot go back with the h/u's trim in place though.
Good luck.

I see you're in Crawley. If you have any probs, go and see Stuart at Halfords in Crawley and tell him Gordon from Halfords in Redhill sent ya. He's a good lad, well bloke and he'll help you out. I'd phone first to make sure he's there.

Question

Right i have brought a Pioneer DEHP 6400R head unit to replace the
double din addzest unit in MY 97 WRX.
Couple of questions.
Do i need a wiring harness to go from the original wiring to the new unit if so where can i get one?
Will the new head unit fit in to the double din unit?
if not what will i need and where can i get it?
Do i just cover the other half of the double din housing with a blanking plate or what?
Any help or advice gratefuly accepeted.

Thanks Gary

Gary,

You should be able to use an Iso connector to plug the head unit in.

You can fit the head unit into the double din cage no probs.

I think a volvo facia adaptor can fit into the other din slot and create yourself a pocket in the process - you need to ask someone like Audio G Man cos he seems to know a fair bit!

I've got the 7000 version and it went straight in my old MY97. I had to buy an adapter for the P1 but got that from halfords for about £13
