Default HU losing settings after engine is switched off

Just installed my HU and thought all was well but it seems to lose all settings (EQ, track number, clock etc....)when the keys are taken out of the ignition.

It was working fine when it was taken out of my other car and i've left the wires connected as they were so expected it to be ok...do jdms have have a different wiring setup?

almost certainly the permanent live isn't hooked up to the right wire. worth getting a multi-meter to see if the live wires have any power on them after the keys are out....
