As above, will these fit in an 04 STI, or would I need spacers?

They've got a depth of 55mm, so I'm pretty sure you'll need some spacers.

I'm in the middle of making my own out of MDF, it's fairly easy and I'm no DIY buff, just takes a bit of time.

The maximum depth that the standard speakers protrude into the door is 32mm. I think in other posts, people have recommended a 12mm frame of MDF to support a speaker with 55mm depth. I've gone for some speakers with a 65mm depth, so have had to make a frame of 18mm MDF and move the window mechanism back a bit, and that seems to have done the job.
