Question

Folks,

Maybe someone here can help/advise me ... I’m relatively inexperienced with all this ICE stuff!

In summary: I have a 4 channel headunit (Sony MDX-C7900R 4x40W). I want to drive the rear speakers direct from the headunit, but pass the front outputs to an amp/splitter to drive the two front speakers and rear woofer. I’ve never wired up such a system (i.e. a amp/splitter/woofer) so could do with some advice. And all this on a £150 budget if possible!

Or is another solution to drive all 4 door speakers from the headunit, and have the woofer driven off the phono outputs via an amp/filter. If so what kit is required and how should it be wired (only use one of the phono outsputs)?

If you can help, please reply/email me.

Cheers,
Colin.

I can let you see/hear my install and help you install yours if you want - I am near you - mail me offline.

I have a 4 channel amp powering the fronts and a 2 channel powering the sub. I would recommend you get a 4 channel and use 2 of them for the fronts and bridge the other 2 for the sub. From the headunit to the amp you need a remote turn on lead and one or two pairs of phono leads depending on how many your headunit has and if you want to be able to fade. Nearly all 4 channel amps have integral filters that will do what you want. £150 will buy you an entry level 4 channel amp.

Take John up on his offer! He knows his onions and will tell you in five minutes what would take hours of discussion on a BBS!

John, are you anywhere near Glasgow? I'm working here at the moment...
