AVIC firmware os2.x vs os3.x + F900 vs F910..... thoughts?
Merry Christmas you lot!
Brain pick really - FINALLY looking at a my stereo in the New Year, and despite a look at other units, Ive come back to the F900bt.
Now, I've not looked in earnest at this since I poo-poo'd it in favour of the 4100 (non-satnav version).
In the last few months, the OS2 (which sorted a fair few of the issues) has been updated to OS3. There's very little on t'interweb about the comparisons/pros/cons of this update. Has anybody done it yet?
Secondly, I see that Pioneer have also got an updated unit - the 910. Basically, faster (?) and more POIs. + the addition of an iphone app to link the 2 together. All for another £250....
Still don't see the advantage of the 910 over the 900, if OS3 cures the issues.....
Thoughts?

Hi Dan, I too was looking at this, I just bought the F900BT off amazon for £565ish, I think that OS3.0 (or even the 2.0 firmware update) was significantly faster than when the F900 originally came out. I can't justify paying any more for a "newer" version which on paper, doesn't look that different. It should arrive in the next day or so. I have already downloaded the firmware update from pioneer's website in anticipation. Also have a look at avic411.com, they have a lot of information on these units especially for modding / hacking etc etc...

Cheers Foxy,
I'd already played with V1.0 on an F900, and yes, it was sh1te. Vers 2.0 is MUCH better.
I just wanted to see the difference between 2.0 & 3.0 - in that the F910 *might* be running Vers 3.0.
Already joining AVIC411.com Been on there for about 12 months!
Let me know what you think when it turns up

Ok so you much more up on things than i am, may I ask - is there a way of getting OS3.0 to work on it without paying for a special pioneer flash card ? I have downloaded the update and intended to have a go with it on just a regular formatted flash card, but I wasn't sure if there was any probs with it ? If it wont update and the model I've just bought it running an old firmware 1.X then I will update to 2.X for free I think as per this link, but it would be nice to have the latest one without being charged some silly amount ?

Hi Mate,
Not sure tbh. This is kinda what I was getting at (also posting on AVIC411) - is it worth paying for the upgrade?
IIRC, it's *only* about £100.
The argument that brewed on AVIC411.com was that of WHY customers should pay for an upgrade that should be free - as it repairs the errors of the earlier version OS (apparently).
Rumour has it that it is available on the torrent sites, but I haven't actually checked yet. May have a nose later
The only other thing that's bugging me at the moment is how to connect the speed signal (VSS) wire - and where it needs to go!

Ive had a AVIC 900BT for a few months. Firmware V2.
This weekend i download and install the V3 firmware from AVic411.com (Hacked EU Version)
The difference is amazing. Makes it a totally different unit!
Ive since upgraded the Unit to Version 3.02 from the official Pioneer site (free upgrade for V3 users)
So I have a fully up to date unit that i didnt have to pay a penny to upgrade!

wow, just the news I am looking to hear... I am looking to do that very thing this afternoon.
I am downloading 2 .rar files from a megaupload site from an avic411 thread.
May I ask did you encounter any problems and did you have to get a password or anything from Pioneer's site ?
Would love to pick your brains a little before I go ahead...

I downloaded the 3 rar files from the thread below. its the EU 3.0 firmware.
AVIC411.com • View topic - avic f900_700 ver_3.000300 **EU** download **EU**
I then downloaded the 3.2 firmware off the offical pioneer website.
I used the Windows CE files from the 3.2 firmware to update windows CE, then updated to the 3.0 though the testmode using the files from the rar download.
This gave me 3.0 installed on my unit.
I then used the official update method to upgrade to 3.2 from the pioneer site. Giving me the most upto date firmware / maps etc
I suggest doing alot of reading of avic411.com
It helped me out loads!

Just upgraded mine too, the touch panel response was much quicker...
Just putting the 3.02 firmware on it now (the F910BT version).
Why on earth pioneer are playing games wich charging etc is beyond me.
It's one thing to charge for new maps, but they should at least make the firmware available... thanks for your help !

glad you got it sorted.
The difference in the touch panel is night and day in my opinion!
I also like the UI improvements and the new maps.
Well worth the effort to upgrade it!

Yeah, just upgraded to 3.0202 using the official F910BT firmware etc... Glad I did it.
To be honest though I've only had the unit less than 3weeks, and I've been out this evening, so I am not entirely sure what's changed on it. All I know is that it's quicker to boot up and is a lot more responsive than the older firmware.
Thanks again,
'foxy
