been all afternoon fitting these to my 93 wrx, in all 4 hrs but well worth it as they sound very good with loads of bass and clear mid and treble .i took the plates of the rear shelf and bolted the speakers from underneath ,with the grills on top sandwiching the shelf together.
they were very tight to the boot spring bars that run allong the back of the self but just managed it and well impressed...........

Well done mate,
sounds like a tough job to do.
Just a quick question how did you remove the Rear Shelf cover as I am looking to replace my speakers with '6 X 9's and not sure where to start. Mine is also a WRX MY95
Cheers

start with taking the base of the rear seat out by undoing the two 12mm bolts at base ,then there was 3 12mm bolts holding the back of the seat ,when seat is out you need to pull the trim off that the rear seat belt goes through ,be very carfull when doing this as its not easy to pull off i gently prized it off with a long screwdriver ,it takes awhile but dont force it or it will snap.
when the trim is off and the old speakers removed the cardboard top will pull out once you pop the two popers on the vents that hold the cardboard self in ,hope this helps for u anyways .
best of luck mark........
