Speaker sizes
#1
All,
I want to replace my standard speakers for new ones, but don't know the size?
Can anyone help?
Thinking of Sony to match my head unit, any thoughts?
Cheers Phill C

I and others have replied to similar questions in detail over the last month. If you can't find the posts, email me and I'll dig them out for you. In short 160-170mm 6-6.5" up to 64-72mm mounting depth. Infinity 605CS JBL GT6.0c Kenwood PS70P are three nice "value" options. Infinity Kappa, CD Technologies and Focal 165 are posher options. May need MDF spacer to fit some. I have Inf 605CS £93 - very please - bit quiet off headunit though. See the earlier posts.

It depends how much you want to spend and how much effort you want to put into doing the upgrade. The Infinity 605CS speakers are component speakers which means installing the tweeter and crossover. Depending on your own level of competence and confidence you may view this as straightforward job.
I fitted a pair of Infinity 652i speakers, bought from Halfords for £60, in about 1.5 hours with no need to make spacers, hack plastic or do anything other than a tiny bit of soldering. Personally I think it's a job well done for the time being.
If I want to upgrade then I might move these speakers to the rear doors (if they'll fit) and then fit the 605CS's in the front (and look at fitting an amp at the same time. However, this will be a while away and I'll just enjoy the current upgrade for a bit.

You may also want to consider replacing the stock front speaker wiring when you do the upgrade. This I found to be more of a pain than putting the speakers in, which is a relatively simple job.
