Default How Can You Test A Subwoofer To Find Out If It Is Broken?

Hi guys,

I recently bought a pair of custom subwoofer boxes to sell on. Thye can with a pair of subs which I now have no idea if they work or not.

Is there a way I can test them to see if they work or not, without wiring them up to a system?

Cheers Dan.

check the impedence with a multi meter dependind what ohms they are you should see this on your mutli meter most subs are 4 ohms but you can have 8,6,2 and 1 ohm
but this will only tell if you have an open circuit it should flutuat if u move the sub in and out, makesure surround not damage, check the spider is not damaged, if you push the sub down in the middle it should be free no scraping noises. sniff the back you will smell if the voice coil has been burnt, you would also feel a scuffing of the voice coil on the poll peice.

1 way i use to test subs and speakers is to use a 9v battery. touch the the terms on the sub to the terms on the battery.use a small piec of wire if you have to. if the sub 'pops' it works. no 'pop' it doesen't.
