You don't need to take the earth wire from battery to the boot just find a good earth point in the boot close to where you will have the amp.

going TO the boot - down one side of the car under carpet:

Power lead direct from battery, inline fuse near battery,
Remote turn on wire from your stereo

on other side:

Rca (pre out leads) from stereo.

connect to the amp,and run a short length of earth cable(or power lead, but mark with tape so you know which is which!) to a bolt with a washer through the little metal hole just inside your boot near rear light, but under the carpet. get some sand paper and remove the paint here other wise you wont get a good connection.
like this

hope that helps

p.s ignore the mess of leads...i need to sort it out! only been in 19 months

p.s, thats a power cap in the pic

oh lol, there is a big(i mean big) grommet that some leads already go through the bulkheadto the right of the intercooler, cut that rubber a lil more if needs be and feed the wire through there, then its just a matter of getting trim off and carpet up and feeding the wires to the boot.easy enough

you can see from this, its the thick blue wire from the battery

i ran my power wire under the car and in under the back seat. but i use 0 awg 50mm2. i've got a 1600w rms amp and 2 x 12'' rockford dvc subs.

no offence, but i would take the power cap out. they don't really help.

tomdscooby, i've just noticed that you haven't changed to earth wire from the batt to chassis. it should be the same size as the power cable you are using.
