Dan...check the sticky on this forum - info is there. Just about to start process on my 03 WRX. The lead you mention is correct.

Make sure the blue wire in the car loom is connected to 12v when ignition is on. This is the power feed to the aerial amplifier in the boot for the rear screen aerial. If it doesn't get power you'll get very crap or no radio reception at all.

You need to connect it to the wire in the loom which gives power when ignition on, I don't know which colour. If you look you should see the blue wire coming up the car loom when you plug the Autoleads adaptor in I don't think it has a connection in it = no power for the aerial amp.

To be honest mate, I wouldn't bother doing it yourself.

I had the old unit removed, a new Kenwood DNX5220BT fitted along with the ipod cable, GPS aerial and microphone all routed so you can't see any wires, had the adaptor cable supplied and fitted all for £60.

I thought that was a bargain!
