Where in the boot is it safe to mount amplifiers without drilling into the floorpan

I've got two amps mounted on the back of the seats. I've also had the hole from the folding seats sealed up with a big piece of MDF. The only way to get into the boot is to use the key (as I've diabled the remote boot opener)

More security for the boot, not a bad idea when you carry a fair amount of stereo back there!

My car has folding rear seats. The remaining hole was filled up with MDF, so that when you fold the rear seats down it exposes a piece of carpeted MDF.

The amps were mounted on the the MDF. I know people who have created an MDF build on the right hand side of the boot to mount an amp.

The left side is more difficult if you ant access to the jack!

Failing that a false floor will do the trick. Remember to get cooling fans in there as well!

I made up some "shelving" to run along the side of the boot.

For me a decent square boot size was important.

Check out the pics...

Hi there,

The easiest way to mount an amp is like the others said: On the back of the rear seats. If you take out the rear seats, and the strengthener bar, there will be a crap piece of plastic... place that on a piece of plywood/MDF...trace around it....cut it out with a jigsaw..and carpet it (bond carpet using EVO stick onto the boot side)

Simple as that - Its what I've done...and I've also replaced the boot carpet with carpet to match the bonded piece...looks neat

Cheers - Wheres me booze...

or.... fixed to the right hand side of the boot, just behind the light cluster. Some self tappers and velcro make a more than permie job.

Ho ho this is a good'un.

Originally I had ordered a subworx sub-box (pic below)..all the adverts showed it on the nearside of the car. I built the amp bit on the offside.
Imagine the scene..amps all plugged in ready to go..screwed my sub into the box..took box to car..opened boot..looked at shape of box then DOH DOH DOH !!!

Phoned the subworx people..no its on the right to let you get to your jack we don't do a left version.

bugger. so I redid the amps on the left.

When I need to get my jack/brace/service manuals etc I just take off a small bracket. Dead easy literally 10 seconds.

I couldn't go putting amps on the rear seats cos I put them down regularly, plus I needed a lot of squarish boot space.

Question

Lee, for your rear speakers, did you make the spacing blocks for the 6 by 9's or are they from your local ICE shop? My local dealer were unable to offer assistance for installing some 6 by 9's as they interfered with the rear metal shelf. Any Thoughts???
Cheers.

I was just wondering, what are the size of the front and rear speakers, as I'm going to upgrade them but not sure their size?

Thanks

Not on the subject of "where do i put an amp?" but what the hell

The JBLs I have are massive. So big that I had to disassemble them, fit them and reassemble the bottoms. Anything else would require removal of the glass.

To this end I could not "space" them up, and frankly couldn't be bothered.

Pair of snips, a Saturday's sweat and I enlarged the holes. The holes are almost there anyway they're certainly not round. Oh and I had to enlarge the holes in the shelf.

Its a company car which means I give it back as I was given it..bit tricky now ! I'll just fit the cheapest set of 6x9's I can find !
