Default Doulbe or Single Din?

After a new head unit, but not too sure whether to go for a double or single din one?.
The double I've been looking at is the Kenwood DDX5022, found it on line for £359,95. but a little concerned about the security of it, i.e its always on show. Also the wiring up so you can view a DVD whilst on the move I'm unsure about.

As for a single din, not sure atall, so open to suggestions on that one!. I know about the Forester pocket to fill the gap, which I like.

Thanks in advance for any ideas
Daz.

The audio place I go to said that he would go double din every time. I never did ask why though...

The watching DVD's on the move is easily resolved, think you have to earth one of the wires - search a few recent threads will get you an answer there

What are you after? If you want to play DVD's up front, double din is the way to go, if not then single din gives you more choice and better security.

Let us know your full criteria (e.g. bluetooth, ipod control, usb, dvd etc.) and I'm sure you'll get loads of advice.

Well i dont mind spending the money. What I see is just a good quality good looking head unit, only looking at the double dins because of the space I will have.

DVD not on the very top of wants, but all the same would be pretty cool, as for all the other bits and bobs, well they all temd to have them on anyway.

Looking about there is more choice for the single din, but not too many in silver, which would go nicley with the dash.

I have a question, how is it that a shop sells a Kenwood DDX5022 for £500, but the Justkenwood web site sells it for £359.95, thats a massive difference. Its also the same for other head units, single dins can vary loads too. These cheap prices are maybe too cheap, but how and why. the more I can save, means the more I can spend on speakers

Thats the one Palmer, I ve been looking at that on the net. But its the prices I can't figure out. the shop sell it for £500, web site has it for £359, same model and everything.

Just not sure whether to get it. What have you done about viewing DVD's on the move?, and did you install it yourself?.

net places don't have the overheads of a shop - cheaper prices. might make sending it back if faulty more of a hassle, but that's what you pay for.

easy to fit, one wire that needs earthing to be able to watch dvds on the move

Very good headunit, as long as it has the features you want, go for it. I have the 9887r.

The Alpine price may include fitting - they were recently (last month) doing a deal that gave "free" fitting...

I go to Dave Wallis in Ipswich for all my audio stuff, spent a few grand there on my Toyota Surf

Popped down to the Audio shop today and had a good look at the Kenwood DDX5022 (as fitted to IPalmer's car), looks awesome.
Spoke to the guys there and they give me a call Monday about the price, as we're talking a good £200+ difference.

DirtBag, are you bothering with upgrading rear speakers?. Do you mind me asking what price you paid for the DDX?

I dont have an I-pod, so a I-pod cable will be a waste of £30, or do you really need one as once its fitted its a pain to change your mind?

My local shop has come back with a better price, so all I need to sort out now is what front speakers to get them to fit. They stock Alpine/Kenwood/Pioneer, I remember months ago when I nearly got this sorted they highly recommended some Kenwoods at £120ish.
