MY01 GX, Headunit Removal
#1
how the heck do you remove the headunit in the MY01 GX? Its a single Din unit, but there are none of the std removal holes you see on most headunits. I have had the cup-holder off, and unclipped the grey plate at the top, but its still attached at the bottom and wanting to take the AC controls with it.
Anyone done this? It can't be that hard can it?
I am looking to replace it with a Kenwood MP6090

After removing the cup holder pull the air vents above out and away from the centre console. They are only clipped in lightly and come away easily. This will give you more room and leverage on the lower silver surround.
When you have pulled the fascia off at the top slide you fingers down the sides pulling the fascia straight out. The air conditioning controls are not attached to the dash itself only the fascia you are pulling on, so dont worry about it. You will need to pull quite hard but they do come away with the fascia. Trust me.
After you have pulled the fascia away you get access to six screws undo these and the pocket with stereo will pull out. Voila
