Default stereo for sub/amp connection

i have a nice stereo my fiance got me for my car, im now looking to get a sub n amp put in to but am a bit concerned as im sure i was told once a stereo need four connection holes inthe back but i think mine only has 2, does this mean i cant have a sub and amp without changing my stereo?

any help would be great. also does the amp run off of the battery? or am i thinking of the sub?

regards

dave

Amp runs off battery, not sub. If you get a 3/4/5 channel amp you should be able to run sub and speakers from 2 outputs. Or you could get a 2 channel amp running off headunit outputs and a powered sub (like Alpine SWE-1000) linked from speaker outs.

As above.......

You can also buy RCA "Y" splitters, if you get REALLY desperate although I would probably recommend a line driver to enhance the power.

You would also probably lose alot of the speaker control but it's another option to explore.
