Question

I have an annoying problem with my standard radio. It suffers form very poor suppression (lots of clicking increasing with engine rpm) until the engine warms up. Then all is OK.
My dealer has “checked and cleaned the earth connection on the radio”, but this has not made any difference.
The car is a UK spec MY99, any suggestions?

Clicking? So, we're talking like "slow" crackling, rather than a high-pitched alternator whine?

If that's the case, the likelihood is that you've got a dodgy connection somewhere. If it's engine-speed related, it's probably on the ignition side. If it's a slow crackle, I'd imagine it's one of the plug leads, or plugs. If it's a faster crackle, I'd guess it's one of the power feeds to the ignition coil (or the HT lead from the coil to the dizzy).

If you've got a mate with the same car, ask if you can borrow his HT leads, to see if that clears the problem up. If you haven't, then take each one off in turn, clean the connections and make sure it's securely fitted back on.

If that doesn't help, come back and complain - and I'll have another think
