Question

Does anyone know if anyone makes a DAB tuner that I can use through the aux input of a Nakamichi CD-tuner?
Thanks,
Martin.

I know both Pioneer and Kenwood make a DAB add-on, but they require a Pioneer or Kenwood head unit...

Anyone know different on this?

DAB units are very much manufacturer specific, mainly because they usually just consist of a black box. The controls and display are usually taken car of by the controlling head unit, hence why it has to be from the same manufacturer.

AFAIK, Nak haven't announced one yet and nor have Alpine, but most of the rest have.

Due to power/aerial requirements there aren't any walkman style units planned so I think you're either stuck without DAB, or need to change the head unit.

Thanks Guys,
this has confirmed what I suspected. Time to look for a new head unit too.
Thanks,
Martin.

I agree with the comments above and having had a DAB for over a year and a half, it is superb!

In response, there is a walkman style DAB radio - the ADAPT DR101 which is battery powered but can run off a car adapter. The headphone out will connect to a car aux in, but the aerial is of the telescopic variety which isn't brilliant in the car. It does work though, because I use it. I can then unplug the radio and take it with me.

Luke, sorry for not replying sooner!

I know what you mean, but I do like the "crystal clear" sound. Still worth it I think and IMHO, you are never going to get real hifi sound in a car and especially not in a Scoob with a big old HKS/Blitz pipe on it!
Mail me if you want to know anymore.

We're looking at launching a 0.5 DIN 12v standalone DAB tuner (and may be doing some neat integration things with it. I'd be interested in having a chat with you M_D_B to understand what you're looking for in terms of mounting options, control, display, etc. email as per profile or 0871 871 9747 during the week.

Cheers

Lee.
