Default radio interference help required

i have got a single din dvd player fitted all works fine except the radio reception is crap.
i have noticed that if the engine and all other electrics are off the reception is fine.
engine running and then head lights on the reception is poor,it is even worse if i use the screen washers.

anyone know how i could stop this happening?

cheers

I saw something about this i the "Ice Forum", the standard head unit has some sort of amp for the radio's arial to boost its signal, and so some after market head units don't have this, it did explain how to sort it though, sounded easy enough.

Post was by JockyTT (#22).

cheers for the reply the aerial amp on mine is seperate and powered when head unit is on which it is doing ok.
the problem i have is interference only when dip headlamps are on fine at other times,i have since found it to be the hid ballasts interfering in some way,i now need to find out how to stop it or the hid's have got to go.

anyone got any ideas?

do your lights earth to the same point or same run as the HID's or take a live feed from the same point.

If they do it may be worth changing them to see if that helps at all.

Just a thought

the hid's are earthed direct to battery and live is via the original wire operating a relay.
gonna try a different earth for radio and see what happens
