I also have a 55 STI and fitted Infinity speakers using spacers/adaptors from IA Performance - Automotive Service & Performance Parts - IA Performance in the States.

i fitted Focal 165 K2P omponents in my MY05 Spec C and made my own spacers from 18mm MDF quite a bit cheaper than buying from Audio centres and very easy to make

mdf is all well and good if yr Handy Andy ... 
... get yrself down to halfords and get a pair of "dare i say it" vauxhall corsa ... i said it ... front door spacers they work a treat on 6" or 6 1/2" speakers ............. Paul

I bought the spacers from autoleads and they were rubbish, go for mdf, i am useless at diy and managed it. I reckon they secure the speakers better and should therefore sound better.
