Can 6x9's fit into a MY53 rear shelf?

Has anyone managed to fit any 6x9 inot the rear shelf of a MY53 rear shelf? Ive had a look at the metalwork under the shelf, and the cut outs are a real odd shape

any input would be appreciated! Cheers
