I was thinking about the new PG one, but don't really know much about it. Need to decide what system to put into the BM.

For the 'ultimate', how about an Alpine PXA-H900 (>3k!), does everything plus 30band eq for each channel

Depends what you want. Alpine PXA-H600 will do three output channels, time aligned plus 4 band parametric on each, but only has crossover for the sub.

Alpine PXA-H400 will do the crossover and time alignment but not the EQ. Although, if you get hold of an Orion DEQ30 to got with it then you have fully digital 30 band EQ plus fully digital crossover/time alignment (assuming you have a Toslink output), otherwise there would be LOTS of D/A and A/D conversions.

Pioneer used to do a digital EQ and so did Sony/Clarion but they could only be used with their own kit.

What's the budget?!

Would recommend the RF Symmetry but it is mega bucks for what it is, or if you are on a budget hows about the Alpine Erag-320 I have one of these and it covers my needs really well, 14 band eq front & rear, sub control, nice flashy light display, listening position sensor, 3x 4v preouts, good unit for the money.

I went to speak to guy that owns local car audio shop.. He has used the new phoenix gold and doesnt like it at all.. He said he will take my eq and get it fixed for me... but wont fix it till he has quoted me a price...

So think that is the best way to go with this... Also said he would set it up with his rta meter...

Sorted

which model eq is(was!) it?

any eq really needs a pro setup with an RTA - there are very few people around who can do it by ear.

however, don't be fooled into the RTA being the 'perfect' sound.

spend an hour or so getting it good on the RTA. then spend a day or two listening to your favourite tracks and adjusting.

then go back and see what you've ended up with!!!

I can never remember what it is... is either a Phoenix Gold 213 or 215 ix.... Not the best eq about, but I liked it...

I was going to mount it on a sliding rail under the seat... but now I think it is going to be fixed under the seat instead.

The 215x is 2x15 bands plus the x-over. Excellent EQ IMHO a cheaper version of the awesome EQ230 (2x30 bands) - which means you have twice as many opportunities to stuff up the sound completely

Problem is, that it only takes a careless moment to trash days of work and move all the sliders!

Hence my interest in the digital EQ for my new setup.

It is the cut down version... I couldnt get hold of the 30band which is the one I wanted... I think I am just going to mount a board under the carpet and screw the eq down to this... and have the seat removed / or unbolted when it is set up... only problem is if I buy a digital eq.. I was going to use it as an excuse to put a tv in the car and also a pc to control that and the car alarm... cliffnet wizard thingy.. and others..

I wouldn't advise setup without the seat in place, it will change the way the sound reflects round the car a lot.

Normally, you'd just put long RCA/power leads on the EQ and sit with it on your lap in the driver's seat!

I was going to put a full pc/tv/dvd system in, but think I'll just use my DVD laptop for the kids to watch. Much cheaper and the bonus of having a 15" screen.

true... suppose if i am going to mount it then I may as well do it properly and make it slide... one thing with laptops playing dvds... is the internal speakers arent loud enough in a car!

Either make it slide, or just put bloody long leads on it while setting up!!!

As for the laptop, its not too bad (better in the BM than the RB5) but I'm looking at getting some wireless headphones for them. There's only so much Tweenies etc I can take on a long journey!!!
