Jap Import and single din stereo fitment

Jap Import and single din stereo fitment
Hi all,
I have a Classic WRX import and I made the move from a double din to a single din HU. Trouble is which ever way I fit it something doesn't sit right! I have a Ripspeed DVD-722b flip-down HU and locating the beasty is a real issue!
If I seat it above the ash tray / lighter, the panel fouls the lighter surround and wont flip down. If I seat it at the top, the removable cup tray doesn't fit in! This is a nightmare!!
Is there another way? Can I fit in a UK spec console to a jap import to get a single din hole for the HU and still have all the pockets / Lighter / Tray???
