Default Forester pocket lid question

Is the lid on the silver Forester DIN pocket spring-loaded so that it stays closed? I am wondering about trying to modify one so that the lid will stay in either the open or the closed position. I could then mount my Talex in it and close the lid when leaving the car, open it when I drive off.

Its spring loaded and has one of them push to open catches.

Basically when shut its shut and when open it stops open until you close it

I keep my Defi controller and Ipod in mine.
