You should be alright but RDS may not work in the same way, or even at all. You'll not get a longwave band either, if I recall correctly.

Biggest worry is the RDS situation - check carefully before buying from Crutchfield/etc.

Exclamation

Tiggs has recently installed an American radio in his MY01. This particular unit had a frequency expander built in.

Is there anything to stop me from buying a bog standard double din unit in America and dropping it straight into my MY01. There is far more choice of double din units in the U.S. and much cheaper too. I just don't have a clue if the voltage, frequency etc will be the same as over here. Help !!!

Thanks Nathan..

my radio doesnt use rds and it doesnt seem to get every station, that said it gets the main ones and i use the radio very little.

also the expander had to be fitted extra but was only £15.

Oh, that's a good point, the frequency increments are different on the FM band IIRC!!!!

Thanks for the replies.

Why the **** don't companies release more of these units over here ? More and more car makers are using them and with the extra space some pretty special units should be possible.

Nathan..

Edited because I can't spell today, or any other come to mention it

I am awaiting a reply from the States as regards units.

Once I have more information will let you know.

All the best,
