Fitting Bigger Door Speakers...
#1
Just wondered if anyone has attempted to fit bigger speakers, mine is a 99T and I have some Focal 165 speakers, they are 6.5" and they fit into the holes no prob... problems start when you try and wind the window down! the magnets are that big that the window hits them! They are about £350 quids worth from my last install so I need to get them to fit! Any help would be appriciated. I want to keep the factory look so dont want to go for door builds.
Cheers

Hi Leon
I had the same "challenge" with CD Technologies 6.5s. I ended up making a 12mm MDF collar to mount on the original mounting pod and then cutting out a bit of the splash guard at the back of the pod.
I suspect that the focals will be about the same depth, hopefully no bigger! I can open windows without any scratching
Let me know if you need more help,
Nick.

I've got 200Watt Kenwood 9x6 in my front doors (MY96).
Made mounting bracket from ply and built out door pods with mdf and fibre glass (by about a couple of inches) then mounted grills on the pods.
Took a fair bit of work and alot of swearing but it looks the dogs danglies bits and the mid bass punch is now awesome.
This the first real build job I'd tried and I just followed step by step instructions of example builds in from a couple of Car Hi mags.

Thanks for the replies, Il try using a MDF mounting plate, that will also help the sound quality, my local stereo shop will do it for £60 but il have a go myself first.
I'l also Email that person and see what they did, cheers.
