Evenin all.

Your starter for ten... all these posts keep mentioning a spash guard in the dorrs, what is this, and whats its purpose?
I am going to replace my fronts soon for a component set, so would be intrested to know.

Secong, everyone keeps talking about their car in terms of MY##. Whats this all about. Presumable its the car model number. How do you know which you have? Mine is a 1997 R, which is that?

Finnaly, I notice that the hole in the metal for the rears is a sort of egg shape, whereas the speakers are round. Are there any co axials or something which will fit this egg shape, maybe using and oval cone/driver?

Thanks it advance for answering my easy questions

I must admit I'm unsure what the splash guard is also, I suppose it could be the layer of plastic which covers the inside of the door?

Splash guard - it's a piece of hard round plastic shaped like a ... speaker . It's on the back of the mounting pod for the original speakers, and protects the speaker's cone against water.

MY just stands for "Model Year".

There are speakers which do fit in the ovals, but not all 6x9 speakers fit easily. Tony Nesta's fitted some Alpines which didn't need major surgery -
