it's wired incorrectly - there's no continuous feed, which is why you're losing everything...
Are you using a standard ISO connector?
Some HU's have what I can only describe as 'optional' wires within the bundle - our JVC had one, one yellow, one red - I had a simialr problem on our Toyota with this, try playing around with the options if there are any.
Other than that, check out the FAQ
I had a sony in mine, and it worked great but that was with the ISO connector... I'd check that first

one should be a continous live feed to the stereo and the other is a switch live which means it only has power when the ignition is on.
The permanent live is not connected to your stereo and need to be. You may have to change the way the live wires attach to the loom ie if it currently red to red and yellow to yellow then try red to yellow and vice versa. Best to do this with a multimeter first as opposed to hacking at your wiring!!!!!
