Trying to finalise what speakers to fit to my 55 WRX.

I was thinking of Infinity 6510cs in the front and 5012i in the rear.
I know I need the speaker adapters etc to fit these to the front (thanks for the info Colza ) but I am concerned about water ingress as the splash guards fitted to the original front speakers will be no good for these. Has anyone else fitted these speakers to the front and how did you get round the water issue. Is there the same water issues with the rear doors and the 5012i.

Am I right in assuming that the splash guards from the originals can be used with the 6010cs and is there much difference in performance between the 6510 and the 6010.

Also has anyone bought any speakers from ebay seller stonkindeals. He has the 6510cs for £49.99 and the 5012i for £35.99 which both seem cheap even with postage.

Its in the FAQ's - two or three layers of gaffer tape on the top half of the speaker basket provides enough weather proofing

Remeber if you fit 5 1/4" in the back you will have to make the holes bigger. The originals are 4" and the door cards are too close to the speaker to add an adaptor.

Will use the adapter rings which allow them to fit without any changes to the door itself.

There's some blurb in the FAQ about fitting rear 'speakers in an 05 wrx, in that case new holes had to be drilled...

Have fitted 5 1/4 in rear with the IAP adapters no problem, no need to drill/cut uses existing mounting holes.

Has anyone fitted infinity 6510cs to the fronts? How well did they perform for bass and was it with the original HU.

Cool. I didn't use adaptors which I guess is why I had to do some cutting. Just make sure the door cards don't touch the speakers - I think you can get little plastic 'stand-offs' to prevent this.

Yep - big improvement, lots more base - Use 18mm for the MDF templates, and one tip I forgot was to put tape around connection stubs on speakers - had a short and had to take speaker out again - my own fault !!

Arch, if you get the IAP adaptors they come with a fitting kit that includes extension pins for the door cards.

Cheers mate contacted IAP as suggested came up with postage of $27. I have asked about postage for additional sets. Is anyone else interested in these adapters as we may be able to cut down on the postage costs if more people are interested.
The front adapter kit is $29.99, rear kit $15.99 or the complete kit which includes everything to do the front and back is $41.39.
Do the pins leave the door card sitting away from the door frame ie extend the door card away fom the door skin leaving a gap between the door skin and the door card to accomodate the speakers, as this is not what I want.
Anybody found any cheap dynomat suppliers?

Thanks for the info just need to sort out my adapters and I will then order the speakers can get the 6510cs for £58 delivered and the 5012i for £44 delivered cheapest I could find

Big sheet of MDF £8 !! - I just traced around the old speakers and jigsawed them out - and I'm a proper muppet when it comes to DIY etc

Yes they will but only as much as you need. You get 3 for each front and 2 for each rear. To be honest you wouldn`t even know there was a gap between the door card.

I am a bit confused now if you can use 18mm MDF to fit the speakers and not require the door cards to be spaced a way from the door skin surely there must be a combination of the 3 IAP spacers for the front which would also allow the speakers to be fitted without spacing the door cards. Help my head hurts

Just to clear up any confusion with the IAP kit you get 6 rings (4 front 2 rear) and 10 extension pins (6 front 4 rear). There is no real problem with the door card clearance at the front, more of a window movement clearance issue, thats why you need spacers/adaptors. However at the rear it is the opposite. No window movement clearance issues at the rear as the windows don`t go fully down, but depending on speakers fitted the door cards can be tight and vibrate and thats why you need the pins. Hope this helps.

Pity you didnt post earlier as I have just ordered mine, we could have combined postage costs. Anyway the link to the kit is Stereo Parts for Subaru WRX and STI IA Performance Stereo. Ask for "parcel post mail (7-10 days) for $27.00" as this is the cheapest postage cost. You need to e-mail them to arrange this shipping method.

The option to cut your own from MDF will be much cheaper as these adapters cost around £38 delivered which is not cheap but for me it is about time saving so it suits me. If you are on a tight budget buy some MDF and make your own following the excellent instructions in the FAQ link at the top.

Gigs, chears mate just seemed cheap and was a bit sceptical as too why but will order now. Just cant decide between the 6010cs or the 6510cs for the front as I dont know what the difference is - anyone know Going for some 5012i at the rear.

Siv Did you have any problems with the door cards ie did you have to space them out or did they go straight back on with no clearance issues.
If the door cards have to be spaced i will probably go for the shallower 6010's but would prefer the 6510's as the bigger speaker should have better base performance.
