Question Is it Legal???

I have just fitted a flip out DVD head unit into my blobeye and was wondering what the score was with the handbrake/speed sensor line?
At the moment it is just on a live, but this means (if I was stupid enough) it is possible to watch DVD's whilst driving.
Is it law to have it wired to the handbrake, or can I be trusted not to be watched hard core in the fast lane of the M5?

" but this means (if I was stupid enough) it is possible to watch DVD's whilst driving." Here in the US it is standard operation for the stupid to do just that. Recently, on my way to work I passed a Lexus SUV. They had LCD displays installed in both driver and passenger visors and they were both showing a movie! Of course I have also been in rush hour traffic at 50 - 70 MPH and had cars pass me where the driver was reading a book or the newspaper. And lets not forget the women putting makeup on and the men shaving. So if you were here in the US you would most likely NOT be in the minority. Scary driving here.

the police take a very dim view if it aint hooked to the handbrake and it only takes a minute to do so in all honesty i'd do it.

They state that the screen should not be visible to the driver of the vehicle.

Bit difficult if it's touch screen like mine but i can retract the screen if i want and i get a dark screen saver after 30 sec's

OR get a sunvisor screen for your passenger!!! and set the zones on your h/u!!

no point in buying it and fitting it if you cant drive your car is there???????

You could always fit a switch somewhere on the purple live line...so when you hit the switch the screen goes off. . .

It already has a switch on the head unit, so there is no need.
What I really wanted to know was, if I take it for an MOT, or the police stop me, is it LAW to have it connected to the handbrake switch?
It is possible to run sat nav through it, so I would have to stop everytime I needed directions.

Took mine for it's MOT and it passed no worries...........
I don't think they really check stereos during MOTs though/.... maybe I am mistaken.
As for it being LEGAL.... I don't think it is.... however I was going to fit satnav to my screen and didn't want to keep pulling over to change addresses etc... that's why I grounded it and fitted a switch.
A risk yes... but I don't watch it while drive so am pretty safe

Mine is connected to the handbrake and speed sense cable and I can still use the satnav, there is an option on the setup that you can turn on or off which determins if you can interact with the satnav whilst moving. Seems stupid that you can't access the satnav if the handbrake is off.
