A sub will purely give you bass, if the speakers are distorting, I'd look at changing these first

No point having a sub, if all you can hear is the bass.....

Failing that, why not amp the front & rear speakers?

trouble is the front speakers are so slim, as there is no room to get fatter ones in, I think bass bin is the only way, unless I shove 6x9's in the parcel shelf?

A decent set of components over 6x9's - personal preference

Yep its because the doors are so thin, you can get thick speakers in, as they would hit the glass in the door

you can get thick speakers in the front doors, you just need to make/buy some spacers for them so the backs dont catch the window etc

If you have infinity's don't you already have spacers? What model are they?

Are you running the standard HU? Ditch it...

A sub not only gives you more bass, but you should be able to restrict the bass going to your front 'speakers too. This means you can run more power through them, so you end up with not only more bass from the sub, but more mid-range and treble from the door 'speakers.

Plenty of info in the FAQ (lol) including a source for spacers (see fitting guide for rear 'speakers in an 05 wrx for link'age).

Think I have small spacers, the infinitys are the ones that most have used here, I am using a brand new alpine head unit as well, I think sub will be the best idea
