Question

The header says it all.

I assume that Dynomat is like loft insulation(?) but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Indeed can I use loft insulation?

HELP!!!!!

No mate - its nothing like loft insulation.

Dont use loft insulation!!!!! Some firms offer pads made out of a similar compressed material - BA Acoustics is one of them.

Dynomat is a thin bitumin type sheet that you heat up and smooth onto the surface of the cars body work. It stops the vibrations the car makes (from the tyres suspension etc) from occuring - and therefore reduces the noise inside the car. You lose that "roar" at 70mph on the motorway.

Im about to have a go at doing the floorpan in my MY01 WRX as i did an old car up and it sounded LOADS quieter so i could hear the stereo. You can lose around -6db of in car road noise by doing the whole car - youd need massive amps to increase the stereo volume by that amount - so £200 on dynamat (try "brown bread" from maplins as well - im impressed so far and you get more for your £!!) is worth it if you have loads of time to spare doing it yourself. Any good car audio shop will sell it.

Im doing the floor, front bulkhead, doors and boot in that order. Amazing result to be had if my old car was anything to go by!!!

Check the adds in one of the car audio mags for deals on lots of kit!

Jza's spot on the money - brown bread gets a good write-up, as does the stuff from BJ Acoustics.

Personally, I also like Accumat from Scosche, which is stocked by "IceTronic" retailers. Bit cheaper than dynamat and loads more workable!

Maplin also sell a similar product called "Road Kill" for £14.99 per roll.

I have used Brown bread in my Sub enclosure to reduce resonance in the box , I used a whole pack just for the box ( that's how fussy I am) , and can recommend it highly , also has a foil backing which keeps the warmth in your car in winter and the heat out of the car in summer.

Thanks once again for the replies everyone.

I just love this Board, because without it I wouldn't know where to start.

I read on the BBC website yesterday that the average worker looses 3 hours a week to the internet and I thought only 3

I love the sound of Brown Bread ( very clever) so Maplins is where I'm off to.
