Question DVD screen in dash storage compartment?

Hiya

I have an MY99 2.0 sport and was thinking about fitting a 7" DVD screen into the centre compartment on top of my dash.

Has anyone done this? and has anyone got any pics please?

Was it easy to fit, and what extra parts are needed?

It obviously needs to fold away out of sight when the car is locked up, would this have to be done manually? or are there any motors/mechanisms that would activate it to open and close?

It doesnt need to be anything flashy and completely motorised. What i had in mind was just pressing the button on the front of the compartment and lifting the lid, and the dvd screen lifting up itself, then to put it away, i would push the screen back to a flat position and shut the lid.

Any advice, pics, thoughts on the above would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

The PSI ECU monitor is DIN-sized and that can fit in the dash mounted pod - http://www.psi3.co.uk/index.php?act=...od&productId=3

Cheers Scooby51, I have a single din hole but on the classic it is fairly low down so not much use hence why I wanted to fit it in the dash pod, I am having it all fitted next week so will just need to wait and see what the fitter can do. If it really is to big for the pod then I suppose I will have to settle for the lower din slot. Will keep this thread informed how it goes.

Scooby 51, you have no CD text info displayed or ID3 tag info for the track and CD you are playing... nice screen but no one home

I have the PS2 Slim Line which is tiny, it is about 2 cd's long 1 cd wide and about 1.5cm high so it fits in the glove box, with the ciggy lighter adapter underneath the console in the glove box and control extension cables coming out the back of the glove box and fitted to a plate in the existing stereo hole.

I have not done it yet but this is what my plans are.

I got the installer of the TV and stuf to run the 3 RCAs from the control panel to teh glove box for me, the control box and satnav stuff is under the carpet under the passanger seat so you can not see anything.

Will take some pics when I get round to doing it.

Right I finally got round to installing the PS2 in the car! I am no master craftsman and I am sure it could have been doen alot better but here it is fixed in my glove box, it needs a bit of dusting off and tidying up but you should get the idea.

Thanks.

Where are you hidding that lot? I was in 2 minds how to go about it, I initially wanted it all to go under a raised floor in the boot but I need my boot and wanted to keep it functional.

I just gave my car to a fitter and told them to get on with it, so the rear speakers are Rockfort Fosgate, the amp is a Punch P4004, I did not want anything that was going to make the car bodywork rattle and fall off but just make it sound better than standard. So that was mounted upside down under the parcel shelf in the boot. There will be Infinity 60.7CS speakers in the front doors eventually, problem is I can not get them in Germany so need to source them from the UK somehow, there is an active Pioneer sub under teh driver seat, the PS2 in the glove box, TV in a Pod on the dashboard and all the control boxes for tv, satnav and tmc are under the carpet under the passanger seat, eventually I wil get a DVD changer that will go under the passanger seat and a ceiling mounted monitor to replace the courtesy light.

currently the PS2 controller cables come out of the existing DIN slot along with the ciggy lighter power plug. I have run 2 controller extension cables which I will fabricate a plate to cover the DIN hole and mount the controller cable sockets into it from behind so that you plug the controllers in to the sockets on the plate.

I will probably leave the ciggy lighter plug on for the time being so I can unplug the PS2 but at a later date I may fit an on off switch to the same plate the controller sockets are mounted on.

Man isn't this fun

lmao @ mountain goat

two 1800 w class d mono amps to drive each of the sub's voice coils @ 2 ohms

a four channel 800 watt to drive the door speakers

and a spare two channel if i fit my kenwood speakers cos they can be bi-wired

the ps2 will be built into the enclosure or in the spare wheel well

the tv screen will probably end up on the inside of the boot lid which will be assisted by some gas struts so when you release the boot from the cabin it just raises up by itself!!!!!

Luckily i dont use my boot for much as we own a Nissan Terrano 4x4 aswell(wife has horses) and i have invested in some tyre goo that supposedly stops punctures!!!!!!

should be done in next couple of weeks so i'll put up pics in the mean time a taster of what they can do will be found here : www.caraudioinnovations.co.uk

I saw the Audi being built for pioneer and it was at max power live 06

Heres mine in my Type R... DVD player fitted under the passenger seat... I only fix it in when in use with velcro... works a treat... looks neat... I do wanna get round to fixing it in and so the lid closes with it in... the cubby hole wants slightly modding as its not quite wide enough for it to lay in flat...

you should put the screen on a lifter mechanism so when you lift the lid on your cubby hole the screen pops up - maybe one step too far but hey ho

looks smart anyway and i like the look of it

btw are those tweeter's by your mirrors??????
