Hi All

Anyone got any views on the Navman icn 520, I see Halfords have it on offer at the moment and am tempted to purchase one anyone used this model.

I disagree with that. The Navman is the worst out of all the units I've tried.

The input is awkward and the volume is poor (especially in a noisy Scoob). Add-ons are poor for the Navman.

TomTom Go gets my vote any day of the week (although I'll let you know what I think of the new Road Angel Navigator next week).

I think for the price the 520 Navman seems to be the one for me, dont do many miles just once or twice a month so I think I'll give it a go

Default tom tom 700

i have the tom tom 700, its in an hp ipaq and this is by far the best sat nav i have ever used and i have used a lot, the software is great, the voice is not irratating, you can hear it in the scoob going at full pelt. used it the other day to go to a holiday cottage in the lakes the other day and this place was so remote it was untrue the tom tom said you have arrived at your destination right outside the gate , i prob it does crash now and then press reset and away you go tom tom for me

I borrowed the 520 before using a TomTom 300, bought the TomTom, found it more user friendly. Don't think the 520 had 7 digit postcodes either which I find very usefull.

From memory the Navman does not have full 7 digit postcode search, where as all the Tom Tom's do. The Navman I borrow seemed to give instruction a bit slow, ie turn right when on top of the junction.
This place is pretty good on prices www.think4.com

700 and 500 toms toms are the same hardware wise i.e they both have 3 gig Hard Drives in them so no smart card rubbish or pre load cd this and that unlike others. The 500 only comes tho with UK street level.

The 700 is preloaded with all of western europe to Street level, which is what I have, I got mine for 375 in the xmas sales, if its 340 quid for a 700 buy it you wont regret it.

The TomTom 300 and the 500 are the same (cards), but the 300 has only UK maps. The TomTom Go 700 is the only one with the hard drive.

TomTom Go 700 for £324.99 inc. VAT and Delivery from Currys website.

Listed as £349.99 but enter currys25 in the Promotional Code box and it will knock off a further £25 as you are spending over £300.

Best I could find on the internet.

I use TomTom on my Nokia N70 with a Holux GPSlim236 bluetooth receiver.

I recently found www.nav4all.com which looks OK (well it is free at the moment) and the price for the above GPS unit is excellent.

There are a couple of websites just listing tomtom deals, like
http://www.find-tomtom-deals.co.uk

If you go via a cashback site like quidco.com (rather than the links on this comparison website) you should be able to get a few quid back on this too!

Tomtom one which has the most up to date chipset (supposed to pick up the sats better) today is £239, which makes it better value than the illegal alternative, which is buying a PDA like the Mitac Mio 168 and sticking a dodgy copy of tomtom on it.

All current versions of tomtom have full 7 digit postcode. The 500 and 700 are just about to be replaced by 510 and 710 which I guess is why prices are dropping.

Remember to go to http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/ for their excellent speed camera database
