Unhappy Alpine set-up help

I have an Alpine CDA-9847R head unit, the only problen I have with it is that I cant adjust the display brightness. I can go into settings and find the dimmer control, I can move it from auto to manual but then I`m unable to adjust the brightness. Does it not adjust other than these two settings? Am I suppose to leave it on auto? How can you adjust on manual?
The instruction book aint no help

Can anyone help as its like driving with the interior light on the display`s so bright

their is a Wire, that connects to your side/dash lights, then when you turn on your lights it auto dims.

if it is newish the wire will still have an illumination sticker on it. otherwise your manual shoild identify the colour of wire.

Yeah its an orange wire, I`m sure its connected to the orange wire to the head unit.

I`ll investigate a bit more...

Cheers.

Yep, near Denby Dale. No collieries round here now though unfortunately. Just houses, and more houses and yet more houses. Got to satisfy the Leeds commuters somehow.

I've got the very same head unit. As far as I known you can only dim the green controls on the left.. not the very white and bright main display.

As long as you've got the orange wire from the HU connected to the correct orange wire on the car... the green controls will dim when you switch the lights on.
