If you're looking for VFM, then the TomTom Go isn't the best value for money. However, if you want something that is simple to use, very customisable and is very simple to update and add things like camera sites and other POIs, then there is nothing that can touch it.

The maps seem a little dated, but this is the same in ALL navigation units due to the map data not having been updated for at least a year now.

I've been busy testing many different units - TOMTOM GO gets my vote!

Do you have to get the TomTom Go speedcamera update from them or is it just a simple downloadable file (i.e. I can probably get it from the newsgroups).?

I tried the Navman, Garmin and Road Angel Navigator before buying a Tom Tom Go 500 about a month or so ago .... the Navman had a really slow processor compared to the others. The Garmin was OK as was the RA Navigator. The RA has had a number of bad reviews for having bugs in the sofware or just not working out of the box and the Garmin was dearer than the Tom Tom equivalent so I bought the Tom Tom.

I am really pleased with the Tom Tom and the wife uses it every day for work. I have paid for the speed camera download and am reasonably pleased. Its not quite as good or up to date as the road angel database but has only given a few false readings. Overall it is OK. You can set the tone to warn you of the cameras - along with the distances for the various speeds.

Overall a very good bit of kit and I don't regret buying it one !

DON'T!!!!!
There is a voltage convertor inside the cable.

Buy an extender or a socket doubler and cut the wiring on that. Failing that just buy a socket and wire it in somewhere.

I mount mine centre of the windscreen. I find they glare too much when over on the right, making looking out of your mirror uncomfortable in the dark.

LMAO - Yes, I do. I also know that there are brightness settings for both day and night modes, as well as different colour configurations.

Fortunately, the TomTom is highly customisable, whereas not many others are.
