Lights dim with Bass lines!!
Hi there.
Just completed my ICE system in my 02 Bugeye today. Alpine 9812 HU, Infinity 6000CS, JBL 12" Bassbox and JBL amp. The only problem is the lights on the dash and my headlights dim with the bass. The bass sometimes fades out and comes back again too. I know this is a protector by the amp but thats even when its not really pumping. Any ideass anybody? Some people have said bad earth? Wheres the best place to earth in the boot? Could it be a new battery as its probably been in there from new. Any help would be great. Thanks
Paul

If you play a really hard hitting bass cd, does it dim and stay dim or does it dim and the return almost instantly?
If it stays dim with the bass hitting,
youre going to need a bigger alternator, a better battery or a second battery and run split charging.
If this is the problem to start with id just upgrade your standard battery to one of higher amp rating and that will probably sort it.
If however your lights dim only on the hard hitting notes and then return straight away then a power cap will sort your problem.
Youll need to run a 1 farrad cap for every 1200w of power your system requires.
hope this helps

My lights still dim,but only on tickover and Ive got a split charge system and power cap 0AWG cables ETC. I try to keep the volume down now if I'm stood in traffic for any amount of time, never had a flat battery though.

Good boy. Most people seem to think that the lights dimming is a power supply problem. Most of the time it is a power return problem caused by a poor body earth between the battery and the chassis.
If your installing a decent system and your using 8mm+ power cable then you really should consider adding an additional earth between the chassis and the battery.
have a look at this for more information.
