Silver H/U?
Hi,
Looking to change the H/U in my '05WRX.Ideally I would like a silver one,mp3 compatible(with green illumination) to match the console.
Only ones I've found at the moment seem to be a bit expensive as I also want to change the front and rear speakers.
The ones I've seen are Alpine CDA-9855r-- £300 ish(Ebay)
Pioneer DEH-p5700Mp-- £130
Kenwood KDC-W6031-- £155
Blaupunkt Las Vegas DVD35- £280
JVC Kd-LHX551 £255
If anyone can think off any other H/U that fits the bill, let me know!
Do you need to fit components in the front or can co-axials be fitted?
cheers

Morning pj748r
I've just gone through a similar thing myself. I was looking at a new HU and front speakers, but have just gone for the HU to start with. (my budget just did not stretch far enough )
I too was looking for a silver(ish) HU with green illumination, but really wanted an Alpine this time. Having had Kenwood and Pioneer in the past, I thought it's about time I had something slightly better.... IMHO.
From what I can tell, the 2005 silver Alpine units (that have multi illumination) are pretty expensive, but do have tons of features. I went for an Alpine 9847R in the end from www.audio66.co.uk ... who have the 9855R for 279.99 at the moment.
Having now got it out of the box (only delivered yesterday) I'm surprised at how close the colours on the unit match up with the 04 dash I've also got the Forester flap pocket to go below the Alpine, which is a good colour match too.
It's worth having a look at the darker fronted HU's I reckon.
As for speakers.... a couple of car audio shops near me have recommended Alpine 1757 (component - £99.99 - £25 fitting) and a make called Memphis (co-axial £79.99 - £25 fitting) but I'll probably end up going for something from Infinity in the end.
Co-axial or component... it's your choice.
J.

Morning Squadron Leader,
have been looking at the 9855r because i have had a few Alpine H/U in the past anhd reallylike their build quality and sound.
Just been on Blaupunkt's website and priced up their Las vegas H/U.Now i know its in black but would like to be able to play dvd's to keep the kids quiet on the way to the 'Ring and camping trips next year!
Price was H/U £279.99
ISO adapter £ 9.99
GTc Front £ 37.99
GTx Rear £ 25.99
Total £353.96incl p&p
Plus a screen £200 ish.
Alternatively i was just going to change the H/U and speakers and buy a Centurion 2 screen dvd player(the one in a carry bag)
Will probably cost me the same, just can't make my mind up which way to go about it!onder2:

Just sold my top of the range Pioneer as it didn't go with the blob eye interior and plummed for a Sony CDX 7700. The HU pretty much looks like it was designed to be there. MP3 compat etc although I'm unsure about the illumination functions (but hear you can swap between a few) as its not being fitted until Saturday.
Bought mine from ebay. Mint condition for £120.00. They retail for around £220.00 with the likes of MCS and are a bit more expensive @ Car Audio Direct. An ebay power seller does them brand new for £155.00 with warranty etc.
I'll post a link to someone who's fitted one in their car (with piccies) when I get home as it was them that gave the inspiration to change mine.

If you want the pocket that goes underneath as seen in the pictures let me know. I have a brand new one unfitted/ boxed from subaru etc that I was due to fit this weekend but now purchased a SECS monitor so looks like this will be surplus.

Finally got the HU fitted(after much hassle with the supplier).
JVC KD-DV6101 - fitted ok after I had trimmed the lip off the rear of the
centre console.
ALPINE-SXE-1750S- fit in front doors without the need for a spacer, you just
need to drill 4 holes to mount them.
ALPINE-SPE-1002 -- don't fit as they are too small(4").rear speakers are
5 1/4".I have fitted them, but on the diagonal with
dynomat (not ideal but didn't have the time to go and
get different speakers)
overall a much needed improvement over stock(not hard)just need a silver in dash TFT monitor to finish the system off.
