Default Ideal midrange set up for MY04

apologies if this has been asked millions of time before, but could someone recommend a replacement head unit and speakers for a MY04 WRX.

I don't want to cause earthquakes just have a decent load sound with bass that doesn't distort with the volume high, I'm not into subs either.

Nothing too pricey, just realistic.

cheers

What d'ya want to spend? I've got an Alpine 9812 (around £230) plus Infinity 6500cs components in front door (around £70). See the FAQ for fitting details.

sounds fine, what size are the speakers.

Obviously the replacement head unit is smaller than the OEM unit, do most places stock blank plates?

the speakers are 16.5cm diameter. The updated model (6510s) have a mounting depth of 51mm so you will need spacers otherwise the window will hit when winding down.

There are actually 3 types of pocket you could use from Subaru dealers

Part No: 68128SA000 for the forester pocket with silver flap. Nice finish but will require some drilling of the 2 din bracket to get it to line up with the holes of the pocket. See post no. 8 of the FAQ. for a picture

Part No: 66128AE000 for a basic open pocket. Funnily enough this is actually £6 dearer than the flap version.

Lastly you could try Part No: H625ESA201 which is available for WRX MY03 onwards which is a 4CD tray. But costs £40. Not seen this and there is no picture on Subaru's website

Hope this helps
