ICE install MY05 STI
It may have taken all day, but I finally have a new head unit and front door speakers.
Thanks for all the help from previous posts etc. they were really helpful.
Anyway, here are some pictures:
The arrow is actually pointing to a green/yellow wire which is the speed pulse for for the sat-nav. (This may be different on your car, please check before using. I can't be held responsible for blowing your car up if you get it wrong)
During the install with the new head unit and the Forester pocket
Just thought I'd show you the tweeters that came with the Infinity 6510's which had a pair of silver cups that fitted the standard brackets with an addition of a bolt. The only thing required was the speaker mesh (honeycomb) on the door handle surround had to be trimmed back a little to make it fit a little better.
As before the spacers (18mm depth) were supplied from America
http://www.iaperformance.com/catalog_subaru.asp
All fittings and full instructions were supplied with the spacers and they lined up perfectly. The infinity's have a mounting depth of 61mm.
Thanks RU' for your earlier posts and guides, they really were helpful
I'll try and post some pictures tomorrow of the finished system with the dash all replaced.

The sound is a million miles away from the standard kit. But I just can't seem to get a sound setting that feels right for me. All the Graphic EQ stuff is a bit mind boggling so at the moment I've used one of the pre sets (easy listening ) as I don't like the base sound too thumping.
No sub woofer for me
The speakers are certainly up to the job, and even the small bit of sounproofing I have put in helps keep the volume at a sensible level, even when on the move.
Out of interest, what bit rate have you used for your albumns on your ipod? I've just used the default and feel they could be better. Thinking of space vs. quality.

I use another prgramme to rip my tunes (only due to historical reasons), but I was ripping at 160kbs.
I recently changed the default to 190kbs, although to be honest I can't hear much difference when driving along (and I haven't done any **** back-to-back blind listening tests etc. - life's too short!).
No doubt using variable bit rate at an even higher bit rate would provide better sound without significantly higher file sizes.

The crossovers do look a bit smaller, but not much (from memory I know). For the passenger side I put the crossover in the space where the window switch is as there is plenty of space, attached to the door card. On the Drivers side, placed very nearly in the area as Granby, tied to the door panel, but card side of the plastic membrane.
As I mentioned earlier, if you have the brackets for the tweeters (MY05) you can use the silver plastic "cups" and just use a bolt to attach them to the brackets.

I may add that it is wise to cover the surrounding dash in protective tape when removing the fascia panel etc. - I didn't, and I've got lots of small scratches as a result....
This may be because I'm a clumsy bugger though!
