Default Bass box too big - how much effect will it have?

I have made a fibreglass box for my 12" sub in the spare wheel well of my scoob but the recommended size for the sub is about 45 litres and mine is more like 70!!

How much of an effect will this have on the sound?

I know that 45 litres is the optimum for the sub but surely it cant make that much difference to the dB's?

It will have a dramatic effect on the sub and the db output, and could end in the sub living a very short life.

If the box is too big , in your case almost double the recommeded size, then the sub will struggle to move the air inside the box --- result, early failure of the sub due to the cone being overly-exerted with a fairly low power input.

Could'nt you make another box with the recommeded capacity??What make of sub is it??

The sub box is ported so I doubt it will result in early failure.

It is a Pioneer 2000W max 12" sub, cant remember the exact number.

No i cannot make another box as it is a fibre glass enclosure (too me bloomin ages!) that fits in the spare wheel well and is now nicely smoothed. I will just reduce the internal capacity by adding blocks of wood or cuting out a bottom bit and re-fibreing a wall to decrease the volume

The correct volume of box is even more crucial with a ported box than a sealed box, i would do what your saying to reduce the volume

Zezz, resizing the box is a must if it is ported. Do as you say to reduce the internal volume.
