Default New install.Very Impressed.

Just for information i've just had a very nice install done by Unicar in Leeds. The speakers i've chosen really sound very good in the Scoob cabin so i thought i'd recommend them, anyone interested who lives nearby is welcome to come and have a listen.

Focal K2 Power 165kp component fronts.

Kenwood KFC-WDA69RC Rear shelf mounted subs with 200w Digital amp mounted to back of rear seats.
Gives you the same bass reference as a decent boot fitted sub box but leaves you all your room in the boot.
Has dash mounted remote too.

Sounds great. Will try and post some pics tomorrow when it's daylight.

Paul.

Is every post on this site doomed to be responded to by morons?

Just posted it for info in case anyone was considering an install.

I hate chavs.

Paul, I'd definitely like to hear those subs. Saw them on the stand in Unicar the other day, and with the amp and all for 200 quid, it seems like a really good practical way of getting some usable bass.

Alcazar is engaging in something called "taking the p" . It's an attempt at humour - don't worry about it

I'm in Leeds, but I don't think we've ever met. Would like to have a listen to this sometime as I'm considering changing my fronts after fitting Focal 165s into my scoob before selling it.

Thanks for the positive interest guys.

I think we have met once before Nick a couple of years ago when Knobby orgainsed a run out from Otley and i nearly got banned in Tom's STI7?

I keep putting the car in the garage without taking any pics, will do them soon.
The reason i chose those subs was to keep my boot space. With them mounted underneath the rear shelf and using the existing holes with the bottom of the shelf fitted with Dynamat extreme they look just like the standard rear speakers and with the small amp mounted to the rear of the back seats it keeps all your boot space.
Dan, i used to have the Focal Access 165a front components and they were stunning, but believe me when you turn this new install up there is no distortion, and the base is more adjustable and more potent than my old JL Audio boot subs. You can tell the difference between the 165a's and the K2 Powers.
I am literally stunned by the power and clarity of this install for under £600.

Paul.

I'd love to see some pics of those subs. I am waiting for delivery of a set at the moment. I tried to find a sub to fit under the passenger seat but there is nothing around that will fit so went for the Kenwoods. I'm sure it will be a neater setup anyway.

Hi Paul,
Very interested in these too. Looking at the rears in my '95 JDM WRX, there are irregular oval holes about 7" long in which the smaller round (standard) speakers are mounted on a separate plate. Presume your installer took those plates out and mounted the 6x9's underneath with cutting required? Do you think you could manage a pic sometime?
cheers
Andy

Whoops, that should have been 'no cutting required'.

Hi Andy, they have been fitted from the bottom of the rear shelf if that make sense, centrally so as to maximise the effect of the existing slightly oval holes without any extra cutting.

I promise to do the pics tomorrow as tonight i put the car straight in the garage and went immediately to the pub and forgot all about it again. Doh.

Great, thanks Paul. Is Dynamat Extreme the material you make the adapter plate from? Any other dynamatting required/recommended?

Am about to try out a 12" sub-box plus amp from a mate, but would rather keep the normal boot space and want well-balanced sound rather than chav-style bass. Rest of system is Alpine mid-range CD/MP3 and Infinity 5.25" components.

Andy,

Dynamat extreme is just the same as standard Dynamat only much lighter. The adapter plate is made from plastic i believe.
The whole of the underside of my rear shelf has been Dynamatted as well as the inside of both front doors.

The pics. Dealer has fitted Focal grilles over the Kenwood rear subs to tidy the whole thing up as the rear shelf was not cut on my request. You can see the subs under the grilles.

Sorry if this sounds dumb, but is it subs only in the parcel shelf? Sounds like this solution would suit me - I could do with more bass but I need to keep boot space for prams / golf clubs.

David,
They are 6 x 9's ( although they actually measure slightly bigger).

anyone know if these would be a decent cheap alternative?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...760790404&rd=1

I assume an amp would also be necessary...

You would need to build a box to fit it in.You are just getting the speaker there and as it is it doesn't look suitable to just fit in the rear shelf,i could be wrong though.

The bloke has 2 auctions going -1 for 12" subs and another for 10". Getting both for £50 seems like a good deal if the quality is OK.

What size subs are yours mate?

My intention is to do the fronts first (infinity 6500CS) then replace the infinity's already in the back. Doing the fronts first will improve things much more but it seemed like too good a deal to miss on these subs...

Personally I wouldn't touch 'em, but then that's probably because I'm an audio snob

You would need a box, and an amp, and the associated wiring. It might be cheap, but it'll cost you a fair few nicker to install.

Thanks for the pics, Paul. Looks like a good centimetre thickness of plastic they're mounted on there?
