Default Fitting Blaupunkt head unit w/o removable surround

Any advice please peeps!

I have just taken out my standard MY04 double din head unit with the aim of fitting a single din Blaupunkt Travel Pilot in its place + black pocket. If have read threads saying that you need to remove the suround on the head unit in order for it to fit. The trouble is the Blaupunkt Travel Pilot's do not have an unscrewable or clip off surround it is an all in one molded part to the main unit. Anyone else had this problem. The options as I see it are;

a: Cut off the surround to the brand new head unit (and risk destroying the head unit)

b: Cut the silver head unit surround in the car so the head unit will fit (replacement silver trim is c£70 from Subaru.) and hacking it to make the head unit fit is likely to look cr*p.

Anyone else had this problem - what did you do??

Would you like some company?

I have the same problem, but with a Becker Mexico Pro.

Any one any tips on adjusting the size of the trim? Does it file easily, etc.?

Thanks.

Before starting my little project, I searched this forum and found it was dead easy to remove the standard scoob HU and fit an upgrade HU

Now I've tried it, should amend it to "...fit an upgrade HU that comes with removable surround"

What sort of standard is DIN anyway?

Just thought I'd let you know that I had to saw!!! the surround off of the new stereo in the end - the only way it would fit. Have to say that now its done it actually looks ok with the forester pocket and the sound quality of the Blaupunkt is superb. Sat nav is good as well much better than my old Tom Tom/PDA combo.

Good luck to anyone else in this situation - its worth it in the end!

Thanks for the update.
I sent my unit back

I would've 'adjusted' my trim to fit, etc. but as it turns out, I may get a company car soon

Not a scoob though

A comment in the faq here about how this unremovable surround can make the install a little harder than suggested would be appreciated
