no sounds from headunit
the sounds stoped working in our early type Y reg impreza sport. its still got the factory headunit in.
everything lights up as it should, the headunit operates as normal, except for the lack of sound.
ive taken the headunit out and checked the wiring blocks etc, but all seems to be ok. any ideas?
it stopped working between journeys, as in, it didnt stop while driving, going over rough road etc.
cheers for looking

There's a mute facility - the brown lead at the back connects to ground to mute (rather than floating), but the display shows "MUTE" when this is grounded...
I'd guess that there could be a short on the speaker leads somewhere. If you've got a multimeter, check that you've got about 4 ohms across each speaker lead pair. If it's less, then there's the problem. You might also find that the speaker is shorted against the bodywork, which will cause the internal amp to shut down too.

and if it's not that, the unit will need repairing or replacing

yeah all speakers are silent.
the headunit looks to be functioning the same is it usually does, no mute message etc. there was a single cable i connected when i first removed the headunit, it clipped onto a metal prong at the top centre back of the headunit.
ill check the fuse and give the speaker cables a prodding with my mulitmeter.
cheers for the info, very much appriciated.
