Cool

I have finally decided that my Denon amp doesn't have the oomph to un a single 10" sub and kappa components in the front doors.

Having done a search people seem to recommend phoenix gold vs rf vs soundstream vs genesis although I know that Adam M doesn't rate the latter.

With a budget of say £400-500 I need 3 channels to run the present set up.

What i need from you guys is what make I should go for and is it worth looking at a 5 channel amp to run the fronts actively or would I be better going for a 4 channel amp and add a separate amp for the sub later on if I wish to go active.

Thoughts and opinions please. It's almost Christmas

Cheers

Martin

Also how much power do you need for a sub - not wishing to win the next SPL contest but bearing in mind the sub is sometimes difficult to hear in the boot - 100W RMS minimum?

My money would be with Craga on ebay for a Soundstream reference 705 factory reconditioned for around $200, plus shipping.

I bought a four channel from him and would recommend him.

Hi Scooby Doc,
Personally, I wouldn't go for a 5ch amp - get a 4ch for the car and a 2ch for the Sub.

Can't recommend any yet, as mine is wrapped up for Chrimbo!! However, I've gone for a JBL LCA752, but I got it very very cheap, and it's not that expensive to start off with.......

Sorry to cross post, but Chiark, did you see my idea for +ve/-ve speaker wire identification? Using the diagram from the ISO connector? I've got a piccy sorted out with the ID if it's required......

Let me know OK?

Nick

I have been studying ebay very closely. Delivery seems to be about $90 depending on weight. Did you use bid pay?

Hey Dan

Thanks for the post

I am coming rond to that conclusion. Maybe I could keep my Denon to run the fronts and give it a break with some ooomph from behind.

You can't be serious that you've got yours wrapped for Chrimbo. Just think - what happens if it is faulty? Surely you must be permitted a test on perhaps...humanitarian grounds - what about the Human rights issue?

Martin

Scooby Doc - my house is most definitely not a democracy :-( Human rights do not exist.

Besides, at the moment, I'm licking my wounds - reversed into a concrete bollard (£600 worth of damage!!!) so subs ain't high on my list!

boo hoo :-((((

Nick

Are you pleased with your soundstream? Craga has a ref 405 or a 605. Any experience?

I take it you are using a separate sub amp according to the pic in your faq
