MP3 tape adapter wont work
I've got a sept 03 plate Impreza (estate) with the standard radio.
Recently I bought myself a cheap MP3 player (from Las Vegas!) which works just fine.
but!
I bought a tape adapter so I can listen to this in the car.. and as soon as I put the adapter in its ejected.. so I swapped the unit for another make.. same result!
Has anyone managed to get one of these working in their car ?

I'm guessing that you tape player has an electronic type eject, tape is taken in by the player, not pushed in by hand?,bit like a video. If so that is the problem ,the tape deck thinks there a problem with the tape thats been inserted, EG no spool tension, and chucks it out again.. Its a safety device to stop tapes getting tangled up in the player.
The other thing could be if its an auto reverse deck that its trying to play the 'wrong side' of the tape, when you insert your adaptor press the reverse button, you my now get some sound.
I had one of these adaptors many moons ago for a CD walkman, it always worked in the tape decks back then(mid 80's-early 90's),but tape decks have changed an awful lot since then.
I also had this problem with some metal type tapes, they where TDK's with a metal case construction.I think the case was slightly thicker than normal and this made the deck eject the tape, sometimes worked - sometimes did'nt.

get a Sony branded tape adapter and it will work fine. Mine did on my 03sti.
The problem is that the pinch roller and the spool needs to be seen moving or it will spit out the tape, the unit thinks the tape is snapped or badly spooled, you need an adapter that mimicks the movement of a tape, the sony does.
Also as metioned above change the side playing if you here no audio as auto reverse decks change sides buy flipping the head.
