Right, no laughing....A stereo for a Capri
I appreciate this should be in 'Other Marques', but I thought this was a more appropriate place to pose this question.
I have just treated myself to a fine 1986 Mk3 Capri 1.6 Lazer as a daily run around and to use for work to save the Scoob for special occasions . The car has the original stereo fitted. However, all it picks up (if it had an arial) is LW or MW
Has anyyone ever had one of these fine specimens, and upgraded the stereo without chopping the dashboard to pieces? If so, what did you have?
Any advice gladly taken (except for "bin the car" )

No advice I'm afraid - but dont be ashamed of the beast. Secretly I have wanted a Capri since being a young boy. Almost bought a 2.8i before the scoob as a bit of a laugh, but figured it might cost more than it was worth to run etc.
Good luck

I too have always wanted a Capri.....Ani i suspect that Ill probably have one at some time. I think im going to go down the retro route after the scoob. Got any goo capri pics ?
Oh yeah....there was an original question. Id just stick a cheapish CD head unit in. It wont cost much and is easy done.

Capri stereo upgrade, I've done it!
Yes I have done a stereo upgrade on a Capri but you do have to hack the dash, the hole behind the fascia is standard DIN but the hole in the front panel is not, think carefully before doing it an original fit stereos are quite sort after by people wanting original cars because most have had the panel butchered to fit a standard one.
BTW I have had 3 Mk3 2.8i Capri’s in the past and still have rare Tickford Capri in the garage (with original stereo).

Paul,
Thanks for the advice. However, having looked on the Tickover site (www.tickover.co.uk) I have come up with a cunning plan.
I'm gonna shoot down to them, pick up a 2nd hand dashboard which has already been cut (no more then a fiver I'd imagine), then go and buy a cheap stereo/CD and get that fitted. I will hold onto the good dash/original stereo, and when I get bored and come to sell the car, wack the old stuff back in. That way, I'll have a half decent ICE system to fit into the new (old) run around
Roberts' your Mothers brother!!
BTW: Tickford = Awesome
